I was in Jakarta last week
getting reports from people back home about really heavy rains that have swooped in shortly after I had left. This was rather ironic because I was expecting Jakarta to be pissing rain but the city was rather bone dry for most of my visit.
The rains kept coming and wouldn’t let up over the span of several days. Red alerts started to go up because this was reminiscent of what happened exactly a year ago with floods that lead to over 220 deaths and the displacement of over 600,000 people.
For the most part, I am safe and relatively dry as most people in the capital are, but the less developed areas of the island are not as lucky.
