Building an Evergreen content strategy: Writing Evergreen Content

Evergreen content is content that stays relevant to readers for a long time (or never loses it’s leaves).
It’s a piece of content that will consistently create interest over time.
If this week I wrote about the hostile takeover of Twitter by Elon Musk it might be relevant for 1 - 2 weeks and then it will be quickly seen as old news.
You might get a huge hit when things are trendy, but that content can quickly become irrelevant as new releases/newscycles follow.
With evergreen content you can create relevant content that draws traffic in over a long period of time.
This creates an amazing advantage as you can reshare content for years to come and have a backlog of relevant content for anyone that might stumble upon your work.
Here are some quick tips to do it right
Avoid using current dates.
The truth is that no one wants outdated content, so by removing dates, your blog posts stay fresh and exciting and help you prolong their life span.
One great idea I’ve come across is removing post dates from my blogs- this seemed like an easy way for people who loved reading what online but didn’t want old news (that may or may not still be relevant).
Update content regularly
Updating boosts SEO as search engines see it as fresh new content, but it also gives you a reason to reshare and get old content working for you again.
Experiment
I run experiments every month to see what resonates with people.
Try different formats like “how-to” guides, tips, industry resources, history of a topic, or other styles you enjoy reading/writing.
I write, podcast, YouTube and Tweet in different formats a lot of the time. Sometimes it falls on its face, but other times it can revitalise how I create content.

I must be getting old with how excited I was to get what I expected to be the best book on tech product marketing.
