NEXT Corporate Innovation

July 30 · Issue #19 · View online
Start your work week with 3 long-reads about corporate innovation. NEXT Amsterdam helps large companies in building a professional Innovation Lab with a hands-on bottom-up as well as top-down approach.

This week we have again three great articles about corporate innovation for you on this Monday morning. The first is about how the best practices from VC firms can be used to manage a portfolio of corporate startups as well. There are a lot of lessons to be learned and mistakes to be avoided. We take a lot of input from how we manage our own portfolio of NEXT Startup Ventures, but also how our colleague-investors are operating. Just like with “real” investing, it is smarter to make more, but smaller investments, than a few big ones. Our ROI Calculator shows that perfectly.
The second article is a memo by McKinsey, about how the CFO should lead in the innovation of financial services. We also believe the CFO should play a key role in Innovation Accounting, the process of making innovation measurable and accountable. More than looking at Revenue and Profits.
The last article dives into Google Ventures and how artificial intelligence has already taken over the role of the investment board. All investment decisions are made based on data. The result of a venture fund run by engineers!
with kind regards,
Esther Gons
