Friends,
This week, a readjustment.

The Quality of Time
I used to (mostly) think of time as a commodity. One hour of time was one hour of time, regardless.
But this year, I’ve become increasingly aware of the quality of time.
One hour of time after a full day of hospital placement is pretty low quality.
I’m trying to maximise my time in the mornings before placement. But ultimately, there’s no getting around it. Medicine takes my best 5–6 hours Mon-Fri.
This has made me think two things:
  • How do people with families + careers get time to work on anything else!?
  • I need to negotiate less-than-full-time training as a doctor or I’ll never have enough time
Perfectionism
It’s easy to fall into the perfectionist trap. For my podcast, this meant:
1️⃣ Get great guests on and have great conversations
2️⃣ Try and get great sound
3️⃣ Post an episode once a week
This has become difficult. But instead of quitting, there’s a nice middle ground. By asking myself:
What would this look like if it was easy?
1️⃣ Get great guests on and have great conversations
2️⃣ Try and get great sound
3️⃣ Post an episode whenever I want
So that’s what I’m doing. Making all of my projects as easy as possible until I can carve out more time.
Podcast
#035 The Clinician Scientist — Dr Joe Ledsam (Google/DeepMind)
#036 My Philosophy for Leadership and Success — Sir Bruce Keogh (Former National Medical Director)
All the best,
Musty
