Hello,
I trust you enjoyed a nice Eastern Holiday.
I have been quite busy helping a friend with
Jazzahead prep. Vincent Thomas of
Oued Music will present
Antonio Lizana on April 29 – Vincent was the founder, leader, and drummer of the Gnawa-fusion band
Gabacho Maroc. This was a fantastic ensemble, both on recordings and live, which I worked with from 2014 to 2018. I am still missing them. Antonio was playing sax in the band for a while before he started a solo career going back to his
flamenco and jazz roots. If you are around in Bremmen, do not miss the showcase, and meet Vincent.
Back to
folk music, I will be coaching the
Flying Nomads duo from Bulgaria in the coming months. They were selected to be part of the
MOST project by Hangveto. I am very excited to learn more about the duo’s project and objectives. The music is very rooted in nature and it will be interesting to help them build a specific audience for it. If you have suggestions or ideas, feel free to drop me a line.
I talked previously in this Newsletter of
Folkatomik, a new band mixing folk music from Southern Italy and the Mediterranean with electronica. The quintet will soon release a single that will be followed in May by their debut album. If you have not checked them yet, have a listen
here. All feedbacks are welcome. The band will tour Italy this summer. They are
available in
Europe (Fall/Winter 2022 – Spring/Summer 2023). The band’s producer and guitarist, Daniele Li Bassi, has shared the stages with the likes of Steve Winwood, Whitney Houston, Eugenio Finardi, Max Gazzè, etc.
Let’s be in touch.
Eric
