Dear friends, Only 2% Filipinos are fully vaccinated. We have a long way to go to achieve herd immunity. In the meantime, we have to be careful of the Delta variant. In the UK, the cases are rising because of this variant. I am also surprised that the lab leak theory thought to be a conspiracy theory is being revived again. I believe the facts behind the coronavirus should be checked so we fully understand how to prevent future pandemics.

2% of 109M Filipinos fully vaccinated vs. COVID-19 so far
Only two million of the Philippines’ 109.48M population received both doses of COVID-19 vaccines, nearly three months after the national government started its vaccination program, Health Undersecretary and treatment czar Leopoldo Vega said Sunday.

PAY ATTENTION—the #DeltaVariant is the biggest worry & becoming more dominant worldwide. Why?

📍More contagious

📍More severe (⬆️hospitalization risk)

📍Lower vaccine efficacy/neutralization—1 dose just not enough.

Covid: Is there a limit to how much worse variants can get?
So how far could it go?
The cleanest way of comparing the pure biological spreading power of viruses is to look at their R0 (pronounced R-naught). It’s the average number of people each infected person passes a virus on to if nobody were immune and nobody took extra precautions to avoid getting infected.
That number was around 2.5 when the pandemic started in Wuhan and could be as high as 8.0 for the Delta variant, according to disease modellers at Imperial.

4) Fully vaccinated people are more than 90% protected against infection, with partially vaccinated people 81% less likely to become infected than those who haven't had been inoculated, according to the ongoing study of essential workers who got Pfizer or Moderna's vaccine.
