Happy May, everyone. Welcome to the 23rd edition of The Chinafornia Newsletter, your weekly digest of news connecting the Golden State and the Middle Kingdom.
Lots going on in tech this week, with Apple facing declining iPhone sales in China, Didi raising another huge round, and Twitter briefly suspending the account of a flamboyant Chinese billionaire/fugitive.
This week’s must reads:
2. UC’s Fall Enrollment at a Glance – great data tool for exploring demographics of UC enrollment, including rise of Chinese students. I pull some highlights from the data in the Education section below.
The Chinafornia Newsletter is created by me, Matt Sheehan. I spent over five years in mainland China, including two as the first-ever China correspondent for the Huffington Post and WorldPost. I’m now back in my native California where I’m consulting on market entry and communications for China-related projects, and writing a book on Chinafornia.
