Matt Sheehan's Newsletter
Welcome to the 22nd edition of The Chinafornia Newsletter, your weekly digest of news connecting the Golden State and the Middle Kingdom.
I’m gonna be honest – this week is my favorite edition of the newsletter to date. That’s not because of any earth-shaking new Chinafornia deals – though the Netflix licensing deal is big – but because of the diversity of activity and conversation at the grassroots level.
This week features controversial statues, food politics, shady moves by Facebook, climate cooperation, bilingual hip hop and much more. I recommend scanning all the way down for some tasty Chinafornia morsels.
Just a few of this week’s must reads:
1. Chinese Tour Groups Suck – don’t judge by the title. Read it. Now.
The Chinafornia Newsletter is created by me, Matt Sheehan. I spent over five years in mainland China, including two as the first-ever China correspondent for the Huffington Post and WorldPost. I’m now back in my native California where I’m consulting on market entry and communications for China-related projects, and writing a book on Chinafornia.
