Former Vice-President of the USA Joe Biden: “why shouldn’t patients have their full medical record” the answer was not what he’d expected (see picture below). It spurred a whole debate on the internet (including feedback from Epics spokesperson). 
No matter how this discussion actually took place My take on this is that looking back in 5 years from now, we have been facing the tipping point for this industry, to start really opening up ALL the data about, on behalf and for patient to be acces themselves. 
Any other outcome or heading than full access for patients ASAP is IMHO out of the question. We’ll find companies (or create them) to make sense, if EHR companies are not able to create meaningful information out of the data. I am sure that if the same amount of effort had been put into this aspect as in ‘billing’, things would’ve been fixed a decade ago. This is not only on the account of EHR companies to be addresses, but also on the side of healthcare institutions and professionals.
