Thursday Thoughts from an ADHDer - Issue #6

Luce Carter
Welcome to Issue #6! 🧡
I’m Luce, a newly diagnosed combined ADHDer from the UK. The aim of this newsletter is to share with you my journey as I try medication and other techniques to get a better handle on my chaotic brain. Plus things I have found interesting that week or caught my attention!

📆 Update of the Week..
No change with medication this week, still just keeping on taking it and waiting to see if it ever works.
Overall, concentration is as bad as ever. My brain keeps jumping between work articles I’m working on, youtube videos I want to watch, two talks I am giving for the company next month, books I am reading at the moment, something exciting I can’t announce just yet, DuoLingo as I am learning Portuguese at the moment, video games I want to buy or play, chores I need to do and much more. All within the space of a few minutes!!
It’s good to be back home again though after how busy I was last week!

🎵 Song of the Week
This week we go back a few decades and enjoy a classic rock track. This is the kind of song I have on a playlist for dancing, singing and air-guitaring at home!

📹 Video of the Week
I think I’m going to return to sharing interesting productivity related videos each week as this is all related to tackling my ADHD.
This week I watched a great video from Matt D'Avella about the 5-minute rule. What is that? Watch and find out!

📚 Book of the Week
Been a good week for books in Thursday Thoughts HQ!
I finished Troubled Blood at last. Once I got into it, I found myself really enjoying it! Hopefully Robert Galbraith aka J.K. Rowling is working on a 6th book in the series!
I started also reading Broken Homes by Ben Aaranovitch which is the 4th book in the Rivers of London series. My mum got me reading these back in 2019 but after reading 3 books in short succession on holiday, I decided to take a break. But I needed another fiction book to read so picked the series back up 😊.
Atomic Habits, my current non-fiction read, will be a slow read as we are discussing it between us in a book club at work, and I don’t want to rush ahead and forget the chapters we will discuss. So my active non-fiction read, and book of the week is Steal like an Artist by Austin Kleon. It’s all about finding inspiration and ‘stealing ideas’ from the people and world around you to help with content creation and just generally unlocking your potential.
Proud moment of the Week
Time for a popular favourite section, proud moment of the week!
In November, I am back in London for MongoDB .local, an event that MongoDB (my amazing employer) holds in different parts of the world, to share content with communities and people who maybe couldn’t make it to our bigger .live (known as .world when in person) event.
It allows for sharing news and features announced at .live. This year, .local is back after the Covid-19 enforced break. But this week I have been asked to give not one, but two talks!
I won’t go into too much detail about what they are about as they are technical and that makes an assumption about your interests dear reader, but if you want to know, feel free to get in contact 😊.
Considering I have only worked at the company for a few months and speaking at a company event is a big responsibility, I feel proud that I have been trusted with such a task.
