However, with collaborative teamwork, this experience can be very successful for all involved. This reality helps explain why early childhood educators are so interested in and concerned about preschool readiness skills and behaviors. Montessori believed there are sensitive periods (or critical periods) when children are more susceptible to learning certain behaviors and can learn specific skills more easily. Thus Montessorians believe in providing for individual differences in enriched environments. In forty-five states, the curriculum of grades one through three is aligned with the CCSS. Providing for children’s needs through and within the family system makes sense for a number of reasons: The family system has the primary responsibility for meeting children’s many needs.
