Europe has created 37 startups that have now reached decacorn status.
According to a Sifted report Europe has now surpassed China in the number of unicorns created since 1990 with 296 compared to 276.
Whilst this is hugely positive news for the entire European ecosystem, it’s still amazing that one country is creating so many unicorns - yet in 2021 Europe has created 72 compared to 22 in China, more than 3x.
But what’s better than a unicorn?

A startup that has reached a $10 billion valuation. The UK is the third in the world with 15 (8 of which have come in 2021 alone), after the US with 134 and China with 36. Read more on dealroom.
It certainly seems we are entering the golden age of European tech, with 65 of the 170 ‘unicorn cities’ being in Europe.
