My thoughts and musings
My thoughts and musings
Hi friends, welcome to my weekly newsletter. This is just a space for me to share my favourite things I have encountered this week and updates on my projects. I hope by seeing my progress (and struggles) in “real time” will give you an insight into what I am doing and encourage you in whatever it is you are doing.

My favourite things this week
📚 Book - This week I finished “The Little Book That Still Beats The Market” by Joel Greenblatt in which he outlines a simple but effective formula (called The Magic Formula) for investing. As someone who is new to the stock market it was a great explanation of the basics of investing and what to look for in a stock. Not sure if I will take on his approach but it was a good read none-the-less.
🎙 Podcast - I have been really enjoying The Moth podcast where people come on and tell stories about their lives and encounters. I am blown away by the quality of the story tellers and how they each have a unique way of telling a story. I keep thinking what story I would tell if I was on The Moth but none has sprung to mind thus far.
🧬 Article - This week on my blog I published an article on using DNA as a method of storing non-biological information. This was my first attempt at science communication and I had a lot of fun writing it.
📹 Video - I have just discovered Alvin Zhou’s cooking videos and I am obsessed. I love his style of filming and his creations, I thought I was a nifty baker but he takes it to new heights. Highly recommend.
Updates on my projects
The two areas that I try to work on each week (in addition to my day job) are (a) building a business and (b) science communication.
I don’t have any updated on the business side of things, but I did publish my first article on my website. It was on using DNA as a storage device for non-biological information. The article is not perfect (far from it) but I did enjoy writing and researching the topic. Check it out here.
