🤯 This week, I was wavering between 2 topics for this Big One
, and I asked LinkedIn
for help… Christian‘s suggestion
? To mix both topics. I took the challenge
📰 Last week, then, two pieces of news dominated the #Tech news: the GAFAM results (should we say MAGMA, now, or not?) and Spotify’s setbacks around the Joe Rogan controversy. But indeed, the topics are intertwined around this quote: “with great power comes great responsibility”.
🤑 So GAFAM have even more money. Even though Meta
(should we actually say AMAMA
?) are exceeding investors’ expectations
, including for some their best quarters ever
. I won’t go over the numbers again, they make your head spin.
🧐 Even if we can question the hypocrisy
of Apple on the subject, we have to admit that the public, staff as well as users, are changing their behavior
in the face of the refusal of platforms to moderate
what happens on their airwaves (can we say airwaves? I choose to say airwaves). Spotify
is taking the brunt of this and even dedicated 15 minutes
to the subject of the Joe Rogan controversy
in its call to analysts
(and a dedicated employee
town hall, a full transcript
of which is available
remains rather proud of himself
😬 The advice we can give
Spotify to get out of this bad situation is to be more transparent
about the rules, provide reliable
sources of information to fight infox, and apply the same rules
to all content. #OhWait
. Isn’t that what we were saying about Facebook not long ago?
🤨 A parallel between the 2 companies that I couldn’t find in any article? Meta is the last of the
dinosaurs GAFAM to still have its founder in charge.
