Ⓖ Issue #18 was dedicated to Google Topics. In less than a month, Google is back in the digital ad spotlight with the Privacy Sandbox announcements on Android.
📱 This week’s announcement clarifies that Google is preparing within 2 years for the end of unique identifiers - for that’s what it is, a complete shutdown, without even asking the question of ATT opt-in - with the support of advertisers (Snap, Duolingo and Rovio provided quotes) and smoothly, unlike other platforms less collaborative in their approach. It’s not at all clear who they’re talking about… and their plan of action is still pretty vague. So it’ll still be different from what Apple did, but the consequences for Facebook will probably be of the same order.
🍪 Yahoo just announced its cookieless Next-Gen solution. Amazon, which is not concerned with data transfer outside of its sprawling platform, unveiled for the first time the results of its Ads division, which generated $31 billion in revenue in 2021, and was launched at the time only to decrease its dependence on Google.
🤯 It seems that we are at a real turning point in Internet marketing channels. The first lawsuits about personal data are coming to an end. Publishers are almost ready for the cookieless future. Regulators‘ interest on data transfers are forcing changes in practices. On the email side too, recent changes are forcing a re-invention.
🥽 A few days before Google’s announcement, Ben Thompson concluded in a long post on “digital” marketing that Facebook was in trouble from all sides on advertising, and that Meta was probably one of the solutions imagined to, like the other Big Tech, have an asset of its own. If you have 15 minutes, the article is even more relevant today.

As I do it anyway (both out of need for my clients and out of sheer curiosity for, well, everything), why not share with you what I’ve thought useful ? On top of my posts on Twitter and LinkedIn, I’ll share with you every week what has inspired me, surprised me, what I found insightful, or sometimes just funny.
