Surfacing. As expected, Microsoft introduced updates to all its key Surface PCs, including a new Surface Pro 6, Surface Laptop 2, and the Surface Studio 2 (no news on a Surface Book update). The designs are all virtually unchanged, but Microsoft has swapped in new Intel CPUs and, in the case of the giant, 28-inch Surface Studio, enhanced the screen quality. There was, however, one very big surprise. Microsoft introduced its own set of headphones called, of course, Surface Headphones. I got the inside scoop from Microsoft’s chief designer on how they built these noise-cancelling, voice-friendly headphones.

Get your PC ready. All those new PCs come with the latest edition of Microsoft Windows, Windows 10 October 2018 Update. Microsoft did tons of polishing, extended Windows Ink to more corners of the OS and made Windows an even better partner for your smartphone. It’s another solid upgrade that you can download now or wait until Microsoft pushes it to your PC.

Trump Text. That’s right, today around 2:00 PM ET (roughly) you and all your friends might be getting a text from the President. Before you freak out, it’s an emergency alert system and this idea predates Trump. Just try not to lose it when it happens and know that it’s only a test.

Cold face. If you have an iPhone and have upgraded to iOS 12, then you’re in position for iOS 12.1, which should arrive later this year (beta testers get it much sooner) and bring with it, dozens of new emojis. This is important stuff. How else can we signal that we have red hair, ride a skateboard, or are suffering through bone-chilling cold? So many choices and they’re coming to a phone near you.

Tis me. I finally did it, created a destination for myself. Fun fact: I created my first personal Web site in 1995. I still have the pieces at home on a backup drive, but its animated GIFs and table-rich HTML wouldn’t look so hot on today’s modern browsers. This new one lives on Wix, a decent service that I highly recommend for quickly building and editing your own site. In any case, check it out and let me know what you think.
