Waiting for the fastest phone. Perhaps you’ve heard of 5G, it’s the ultra-fast next-gen cellular connectivity technology set to transform every bit of our mobile lives. We’ve been waiting for it for a long time. The infrastructure to support it is being built out and phones are expected by sometime next year. Among the first, though, could be a phone from Motorola that ships this year. There is a caveat, though. The 6.1-inch Motorola Z3 ships this month (only on Verizon) and, like the Z3 Play I took a look at, it accepts mods. One of those mods will be a 5G module. Of course, it doesn’t arrive until 2019.

Talk among yourself. We have devised all kinds of ways to keep an eye on our homes when we travel. Some of us install cameras and motion sensors, others buy a watchdog, or they simply ask the neighbors to keep an eye on their homes. The surest way to prevent burglars from breaking in is probably staying home or faking it with technology. There’s a new Alexa skill that makes your Echo play mundane, pre-recorded conversations at random intervals. It’s a smart, somewhat oddball idea that just might work.

Samsung time. This week I’ll be trundling to Brooklyn for Samsung’s big product event. The company isn’t saying what the launch is about, but all rumors and leaks (so many leaks) point to a new Galaxy Note 9 with an insane amount of storage. In fact, most of the latest Note 9 rumors were confirmed, accidentally of course, by Samsung! In any case, if you want the ground truth (and details on ALL the products Samsung unveils), follow me on Twitter Thursday at 10 AM ET for the play-by-play.

When there were 3. Apple was founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak…and Ronald Wayne. The story of what happened to Wayne, why he left, what he did and how he designed the very first Apple logo (it looks nothing like the current one) is all fodder for a fascinating tale of lost tech history.

P.S. Job Hunting? Study Quantum Computing.
P.S.S. Still curious after all these years.
