Big red. Do not be alarmed if you look up this evening and see a big red moon. There are a few celestial events going on today, including what’s known as the Blood Moon. Part of this has to do with a lunar eclipse that those in North America won’t be able to see. Instead, we get the intense refraction of the sun’s light passing through our atmosphere to create the red hue. At the same time Mars is gonna be hella close to the Earth, and by close I mean millions of miles away, definitely not close enough to see that newly-discovered water. Still it will be brighter than normal so get out your telephoto lenses.

Unstoppable. Amazon’s earnings numbers dropped yesterday, and it is 99% good news. Apparently, the earnings were off a bit, but revenues were insane. It’s already booming cloud business grew by 49%. Prime Day, which helped Amazon sign up scads of new Prime members is not factored into this report. However, Amazon did say that small and medium-sized business generated $1 billion in sales during the event.

See the Assistant. If you wanted a screen with your Google Home or Google Home Mini, you’re in luck. Google partner Lenovo finally started shipping the first third-party device to integrate the digital voice assistant, Google Assistant. Lenovo Smart Display, looks a lot like Amazon’s Echo Show (which includes Alexa), but with a slightly larger 8-inch screen. The $199 device includes YouTube, phone calling, smart device control, casting of content from your phone to the device via Chromecast, and Google Photos. Is this better than keeping a tablet open and upright on your kitchen counter? I don’t know,

Fly really high. The dream of space tourism inched a little closer as Virgin Galactic completed yet another test flight. This one took the VSS Unity to an incredible Mach 2.47 and 170,800 feet into the sky. This puts it about half-way to actual space, so expect many more test flights in the near future. Then you can consider whether you’d want to buy a very expensive ticket.
