This Team is no Slacker. Back in my Mashable days we used a variety of team communication tools, including something called “Campfire” (it was a hoary thing, but I still miss it). However, everything changed when we started using Slack. It’s a powerful and versatile team communication platform that’s become so pervasive in business, there’s a Meme Bot built to generate memes for it. When Microsoft introduced Teams in 2016, we all assumed it was coming after Slack, but without a free Teams options, it was no contest. Now that all changes with a free Teams version that, at least in some ways, is better than Slack. Kinda makes me wish I was back in an office.

Are you Primed. Unless you live under a rock, you know that next week marks one of the biggest online shopping days of the year, and it’s all controlled by one ecommerce giant. Amazon Prime Day is that inescapable deal machine that gobbles up billions of sales dollars every year. Amazon engineered it that way and I’m not sure any of us have the strength to resist. Should we?

A New Pro. There was no event, no commercial, no fanfare at all (beyond a press release), just a new Apple MacBook Pro featuring, finally, 8th Gen Intel quad core chips, a True Tone-supporting screen and an upgraded keyboard. These are systems I thought we’d see in the spring or even at WWDC, so I guess it makes sense that, since they probably slipped behind a bit, to just quietly release them. Apple’s biggest 2018 product launches are just a couple of months away, after all.

Star men and women. The U.S. hasn’t ferried an astronaut to space since 2011. Since the retirement of the Space Shuttle, we’ve relied on the Russian Soyuz Rocket. SpaceX and Boeing are building manned systems to take over as soon as 2019, but a new report casts some doubt on their progress. Personally, I hope it’s not true. A delay on manned missions to the ISS could slow down efforts to get back to the Moon and, eventually, Mars.
