If you love them. Two of Google’s biggest moonshot projects: Loon and Wing (one for rural connectivity, one for drones) and being kicked out of the nest so they can become their own, perhaps, thriving companies. We’ll see.

Same. Ooh, we finally got an illicit glimpse of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and, guess what, it looks just like the Note 8. That is the impression you get from seeing Android Headlines’ big scoop photo, which only shows the front of the huge-screen, stylus-friendly device. Too bad we can’t see the back and too bad this is a totally unconfirmed images. It’s still fun to look at.

Tiny Tablet. There have been rumors of a Microsoft Surface Mini, something to compete with Apple’s iPad Mini for years, and they have finally come true…sort of. On Monday, Microsoft unveiled the Surface Go. It’s about the size of a 10.5-inch iPad Pro, and offers pretty much everything you get in a standard Surface Device, save a decent CPU. The price is also pretty remarkable: $399. I have some thoughts.

It’s not too early. The end of Independence Day celebrations marks the beginning of Back to School planning. Put down your pitchforks. You know you were thinking about it. Why do you think Amazon Prime Day hits next week? So, parents can get a jump on some awesome back-to-school gadget deals. And speaking of gadgets, I’m starting to see the first of what I’m sure will be a flood of education-friendly gear. First up is Logitech Crayon, the first third-party iPad stylus designed specifically for Apple’s $299 education tablet. It arrived with Logitech’s Rugged 2 Combo Case. I had some fun putting them to the test. You can read up and then look like a genius when your kid brings them home from school and you say, “Oh, yeah, I know all about that.”

Enough already. Online Stans are quickly becoming the scourge of social media. Stans are insane fans of anything who will jump to the defense of said thing, no matter what contents of the counter opinion. In this most recent case, Nicki Minaj fans steamrolled a music reporter who asked a simple question about the rap artist (she wondered if the artist should record more “mature” tunes). I know nothing about Minaj’s music or whether or not it’s “mature,” but those Stans do. Minaj ultra-fans and even Minaj herself, went crazy on the young woman. It’s another reminder of the frustratingly dark side of social media and how it can amplify the worst in us.
