Merged. A federal judge gave the big thumbs-up to AT&T’s $85B takeover of Time Warner and everything underneath it (HBO, CNN, Warner Brothers, DC Comics, TBS, TNT, the Cartoon Network and more) handing the Department of Justice, which opposed the deal, a loss that could mean it won’t have much luck blocking future, similar deals. The decision comes almost two years after the deal was first announced and months after President Trump voiced his displeasure about it. What does it mean for you CNN news junkies and Game of Thrones fans? Not much, at least in the short term. The question is whether a distribution network like AT&T could end up prioritizing their content stable over, say, that of Netflix, which does not have a similar service provider parent. If Comcast’s ownership of NBC/Universal is any guide, we may not have much to worry about, at least in the short-term.
