A verbal The Dress. A few years back the Internet took sides over whether a photo depicted a black and blue or white and gold dress ( always saw white and gold). Now a new meme has divided the Internet and, surprisingly, it’s over a word spoken in a tiny snipped of audio. Some hear “Yanny,” while others hear “Laurel.” I’ve heard something approximating both. Why is this happening? Science may have an answer.

Prime cut. Amazon just added another great reason to join its Prime Membership (even if the price is rising): Discounts at Whole Foods. The program kicks off in Florida with 10% savings on a slew of items and some special deals, as well. Loyalty programs at food stores are nothing new, but the benefits appear bigger here. If this goes well, expect other food stores to follow suit and add some more tangible savings enhancements to their programs.

Crypto-phone. Even if you don’t understand Bitcoin or aren’t ready for the crypto-currency revolution, the decentralized monetary system is expanding in new and unexpected ways. The latest entrant is a Bitcoin phone from handset maker HTC. It will not only include apps and hardware to support crypto but will serve as a node to help expand the system (and eat up your battery). Is this the breakthrough technology Bitcoin needs to go mainstream? Probably not, but it is another small brick in the Bitcoin wall.

Beating an Apple Scam. I have gotten a lot of Apple Support scam calls, none of which originate from Apple. I finally got fed up and played along. And, along the way, I learned a lot. Let my journey be a lesson to you.

Mean tweets. I’m lucky. I don’t get too many trolls on Twitter. But for celebrities, political figures and, especially woman, Twitter trolls are a major problem. Yesterday, Twitter said it was rolling out technology to auto-hide trolling tweets. This is good news for everyone, except Jimmy Kimmel, who regularly offers up hysterical “Mean Tweets” segments.

Smaller Surface. Microsoft’s 82-inch 4K Surface Hub screen was impressive and daunting. How many companies were going to buy that massive, expensive (and super-intelligent) touch screen? Microsoft appears to have answered that question by unveiling a more bite-sized version of the Hub. One person can move the new 50-inch Surface Hub 2 and, while it’s much smaller than the original, it’s also more versatile, Surface Hub 2 is designed to sit on an easel or be mounted one-next-to-the-other to recreate that original Surface Hub or something much larger. The Hub 2, which is still designed for business, arrives next year.
