Folding away. After numerous reviewers and influencers reported damaged screens, Samsung decided to pull the plug on its Samsung Galaxy Fold launch – indefinitely. The screens were damaged not only when reviewers peeled the protective layer off the screen (despite an in-box warning), but because debris managed to make it inside the device, damaging the flexible, yet fragile OLED screen. Now, as we wait to hear whether or not Samsung will even launch the Fold (trust me, they will), some are wondering exactly what went wrong and why. As for me, I still think the device showed promise for pocket-sized convertible devices.

Test drives. Apple is starting to tease out some of its new services offerings in a public beta of its next mid-point iOS update. The third Public Beta for iOS 12.3 dropped yesterday. 12.3 includes our first glimpse of the updated Apple TV app, which includes “Channels.” That’s the ala carte channel signup service that doesn’t require a cable subscription or even a separate channel app (no need for HBO Now to get HBO – you still have to pay a subscription fee, though). “Public Beta,” by the way, means anyone with a compatible iOS device can register their device and download the update, though beta software is always a little risky. So, you might want to leave it to the experts.

Moar Phones. OnePlus officially set May 14 in NYC as the launch date for its next flagship Android device. We don’t know a lot about the OnePlus7 Pro, but it should have a next-gen screen (likely edge-to-edge without a button in sight) and could be OnePlus’s most expensive handset ever.

Rumor mill. Like those new AirPods with the wireless charging case? Good, then you’ll love this new rumor, which has Apple launching another pair of new AirPods before the end of this year. This time, rumormongers have Apple squeezing noise-cancelling tech into the tiny earbuds. I’ll believe it when I see…or hear it.

The watchers. Some Walgreens around the country have just installed either best or creepiest shopping technology in recent history. There are now cases with cameras and special screens. The cameras see you, analyze your gender and maybe other details about you and then the system serves up a custom ad. Have a beard? How about trying this shaving cream? Early reports suggested the system could even detect your mood, but the developers say that’s not the case. Even so, this retail tech may make some shoppers feel uneasy (while perhaps entertaining others).
