Listen up. I’ve long been a fan of Apple AirPods and now that the rest of the world has caught up, Apple released a second-generation pair that come with their own wireless-charging case. Even if you saw me wearing AirPods 2, you might assume they were the old pair. The old and new look exactly alike. But there are changes inside the Bluetooth headphones and that big charging change – and some subtle design ones – in the case. I have a full ears-on review for you.

Retro Rocket. Elon Musk’s SpaceX Starship is looking more and more like something straight out of Amazing Stories. The latest renders put the steel rocket in space, heading back into the earth’s atmosphere and landing on Mars as its unusual hexagonal heat shields glow and a plasma surrounds the spaceship. These renders are not just pretty pictures. They tell us more about how the ship will fly, how the shields will work and how a special transpiration cooling might create that other-worldly glow. We’re still a long way from Starship liftoff and eventual Moon and Mars missions, but it’s still exciting to see that the future of spaceflight looks a lot like how some guy in the 1950s imagined it.

Fire Stopper. Most homes have fire extinguishers stashed somewhere, safely out of sight. They’re potential lifesavers, but who wants to look at them? Now Samsung’s combined safety with style in its remarkable little Firevase. It’s a flower vase that hides fire retardant. You use it by removing your flowers and throwing it – no kidding – at the fire. Firevase shatters and spreads the retardant, thus snuffing out the conflagration. Want.

Spam Call Smackdown. A little while ago I told you how your phone companies, the FCC, and the FTC were all working to end our Robocall Nightmare. This week the FTC took direct action against four robocalling companies, shutting them down and, perhaps, easing our pain just a bit.

Stock lift. Ride-sharing company Lyft officially beats competitor Uber to an IPO and the NASDAQ stock exchange this morning with an anticipated valuation of $24 billion. The stock offering is expected to raise $2 billion. That cash infusion should help Lyft beat back competition, deal with frustrated drivers who don’t think they’re getting paid enough, and accelerate plans to build out services like car service centers.
