Can’t get along. Long-time tech partners and now constant legal warriors Apple and Qualcomm are only a couple of months away from an official court date in San Diego where the two companies will duke it out over what Qualcomm claims is clear patent infringement. Apple believes Qualcomm’s licensing agreements are exorbitant and unfair. Now, Qualcomm is asking U.S. regulators to ban some iPhones in the U.S. Even though it’s succeeded in getting some European countries to do so, I don’t think Qualcomm will prevail here. April should be interesting.

Folding phone mania. 2019’s hottest phone trend is for a design virtually no one owns: the flexible, or foldable, phone. I’m not talking flip phones. These are devices with big OLED screens that, owing to their native flexibility, can fold into smaller, more pocketable shapes. I’ve seen the Royole FlexPai in person and we’ve all seen videos of Samsung’s folding design. Now a patent filing indicates Apple might be thinking about introducing a folding phone, too. On the other hand, patents aren’t always indications of future products. Sometimes they’re filed just to protect future design ideas. In any case, I still have trouble believing that any company is going to sell a lot of flexible phones.

To the Moon. SpaceX is preparing to launch its Falcon 9 rocket from the east coast with a pair of payloads, including a Moon lander. The act of launching both a small satellite and the Beresheet Moon Lander will require some pretty complex maneuvers from the SpaceX launcher. If weather holds and the technology is ready, it’ll all happen on February 21.

Alternatives. If you don’t want to wait for Samsung or simply want an all screen Android phone for a lot less money, you might want to check out Xiaomi Mi 9, a 6.3-inch OLED phone that starts for less than $450.
