Spotting an anchor. A while back, I wrote how podcasts had risen from the ashes to become the hot new thing. Now that position as the “it” media platform of the moment was cemented when Spotify acquired podcast companies Anchor and Gimlet. As I see it, it better positions the music streaming giant to compete with Apple, which obviously has its Podcast app and is recognized as the premiere destination for these all-audio shows.

Priced right. Motorola (which is now owned by Lenovo), has built a solid reputation for excellent handsets at very affordable prices. The G7 series continues that tradition, Now the Motorola phones have edge-to-edge displays and, yes, notches of varying sizes. The Android phones have fast Qualcomm Snapdragon CPUs, good cameras, good screens, and none costs more than $299.

Apple Watch. Over the past few months I’ve heard a few people float the idea that Apple should buy Netflix. We know Apple wants to get into the original content game (it’s doing a little right now) and would like to add millions of people to its own streaming service. Netflix sounds like a perfect fit, right? Except it’s not. In this latest The Upgrade post, I make my case.

Indescribable. Normally the machinations of a broken marriage, an affair and illicit texts would not interest me. However, when the cast of characters in this drama includes the CEO of one of the most important technology companies in the world, I take notice. In case you haven’t been paying attention, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and his wife Mackenzie announced they were divorcing after 25 years on Jan 9. Turns out that they wanted to trump a National Enquirer tabloid story on an apparent affair Bezos has been having with Lauren Sanchez, and had intimate texts to prove it. Fast forward to yesterday when Bezos claimed in a very revealing Medium post that the Enquirer has tried to extort him with a threat that it would release a series of very personal images. This whole thing is insane and while I applaud Bezos for taking control of the situation, one has to wonder how Amazon shareholders feel about all these revelations.
