Loose Change. Isn’t funny how many B- and D-List celebrities are talking up crypto-currency as the next big thing? In some cases, I think they really believe it and think it’s a powerful-forward-leaning investment. Bitcoin may very well be the future of global currency. Unfortunately, there’s still a lot of shady activity going on around it and other crypto-currencies like it. For example, people getting paid to promote it to, sometimes, millions of online followers, but neglecting to tell anyone that they’re paid spokesmen. The SEC is looking at DJ Khaled and boxer Floyd Mayweather, who apparently already agreed to give the real money back.

A Big Breach. “Hope you enjoyed your recent stay at the Marriott. As a valued Starwood member, we want to let you know your account has been hacked.” That’s more or less the message Marriott has delivered to patrons who’ve stayed at its various Starwood-affiliated hotels in recent years after a massive reservation system breach that exposed 500 million accounts. Worse yet, they didn’t just get names and stay dates, the hackers have had access since, it seems, 2014 to passport and credit card numbers. Was your information swept up on the massive hack? Watch for an email from Marriott to find out, while you’re Googling, “Best Hotels, other than Marriott, to stay at.”

Google Wireless. Google’s Fi, the wireless cell service that actually uses three different cell service providers, is shifting from a Google Project to a full-blown commercial service. Unfortunately, only a relatively small number of phones can do the network hopping necessary to even be on Google’s Fi service. That will change over time. Why should you care? If you’re not a data hog, Google Fi could be a better deal than most other competing cell service providers…In the U.S., at least.
