Inevitable. History has shown that when an industry gets too big or powerful and, in some way, radically alters or threatens the economic and/or social fabric of a nation, it will get regulated. It happened with telecommunication and now it’s almost certain to happen with the tech industry. The European Union’s led the way on this front, but most believe, including Apple CEO Tim Cook, the U.S. isn’t far behind. He’s not pulling for it, mind you, but acknowledged in a recent interview that the free market isn’t working.

Second Act. I was not in love with Amazon’s original Echo Show. The Alexa-sporting 7-inch screen device had an odd shape, too sharp edges and, to be honest, adding visuals to Alexa’s responses seemed unnecessary. The Amazon Show Second Generation fixes the awkward design, adds more features and has excellent smart device integration. You can even sing karaoke with it.

Breakthrough. Elon Musk’s Boring company completed its first experimental tunnel in Hawthorne, California, on Friday. The head of the giant digging machine emerged inside a vertical tunnel, which will be used to access the next-gen transportation system called “The Loop.” It’s a low-pressure tube that will use electric skates to ferry commuters at up to 150 mph. Musk plans on offering tours and rides in the demo tunnel starting December 10.
