IBM Eats Red Hat; What Stops Hate; Track OnePlus 6T; iPad Leak

A new hat. IBM gobbled up Linux provider Red Hat for an eye-popping $34 billion over the weekend. It is the biggest open-source acquisition ever. If I’m reading this right, IBM hopes to use Red Hat to build cloud-based software services that many companies might otherwise choose to run locally. This could be a game-changer for some businesses and, with IBM already making big money off the cloud I think this could redefine IBM’s cloud revenue picture, as well.

Where hate lives. Social media, the thing that was supposed to connect us is now recognized as a breeding ground for hatred. Twitter and Facebook struggle to contain it and even when they do, there are other options. I worry that this game of whack-a-mole isn’t getting to the heart of the problem.

One-Plus-One. OnePlus is set to unveil its eagerly-anticipated OnePlus 6T phone (it has a fingerprint reader under the screen!) today in Manhattan. The company originally scheduled their New York City event for the 30th until Apple announced it’ iPad event for the same day. OnePlus quickly shifted a day early. The good news is that now I can attend both events. Keep an eye on my Twitter for real-time updates. You can also watch the event live.

iPad leak. Speaking of Apple, the steady drip of product leaks has turned into a firehose of information. We now think we know what the redesigned iPad Pro (or iPad, period) will look like. Goodbye Touch ID and hello new sizes. Is this accurate? Who knows? What I can promise you is that we’ll have all the answers tomorrow when Apple unveils an updated tablet and, likely, new Macs and MacBooks in Brooklyn at 10 AM ET. Yes, I will be there.
