If you know me at all, you know I have a lot of interests (leadership, technology, travel, productivity, music, etc). This newsletter will be just some of my musings and curation of content from the week. It will be weekly, sometimes less, never more.

It’s been pretty cool that every week, the subscriber list has been growing. And I believe that’s because of you, who receive, read and share it with others. So thank you and welcome to new subscribers! If you only have time to skim this newsletter and have the thought to come back to it later, click on at least ONE link below (Pocket). It will help! Also, I love when you reply to this email and either share with me your thoughts or to tell me what resonated with you. So thanks for doing that!

Getting Things Done (GTD) by David Allen - Animated Book Summary And Review - YouTube
Most of what I do to get things done is using the GTD system and I learned it years ago when I read this book. But this video is a great 8 min summary of the book and how to implement it. If you don’t have a good system for getting things done, this book is a must read. Even if you do have a trusted system, there could be some great takeaways as well to dial in and refine how you get things done. There’s been a huge “cult” following with GTD system and tons of apps. I’ll definitely be sharing the tools I use on a daily basis as well as my review system in upcoming newsletters. This just takes 8 minutes to watch, just click and watch!

Your Career Needs Many Mentors, Not Just One
You actually might need more than one! Earlier on, I really pushed back on the thought of having multiple mentors in a person’s life because I thought it would be multiple voices that might be competing, hence adding more confusion rather than clarity. But in recent years, especially also laid out in this article, I truly believe that no ONE mentor/coach will satisfy us and the better approach is to look for different mentors/coaches in different areas that we want to grow in. That’s why I gave a shout out yesterday to two guys who have been my mentor coaches for years and have believed in me and added tremendous value in my life. So grateful for Lance Witt (former Executive Pastor at Saddleback Church) and Terry Storch (co-founder of YouVersion and Digerati Leader at Life.Church).

Pocket
Do you ever come across something on social media, email or a link from a link and you don’t have time to read it now but you want to read it later? If you do, what do you do with it? Do you write it down? Do you save it as a bookmark in Safari/Chrome/Firefox? Do you put it in Evernote or Notes? Here’s the best app that I’ve been using for years - Pocket. It’s a one-stop place where you can save your articles/blogs/videos/etc from your computer or phone so that you can view them when you have time. The best part is that when you read it on your phone or computer later, it strips all the ads and clutter and just shows you the content. Brilliant! So, when I have 5 minutes in line, or in the bathroom (sorry), I just catchup on my reading and am able to share it with people as well. If all of your stuff is in many different places, give this a try on your iPhone, Android, or computer. Once it’s saved in there, you don’t even need an internet connection to read (great on catching up reading in planes!).

Every innovation starts with imitation!
I think most people love the idea of innovation and creativity. And also, most people look down upon copying or imitation. This was a short interesting article that challenges that thought that, we shouldn’t fear imitation, because “Only God creates, The rest of us just copy” - Michelangelo. We don’t have to reinvent the wheel or start from scratch. We can start by learning from others and then innovating from it. Another way to say it is, it’s not necessarily better just because it’s completely from scratch. In fact, it might be actually worse. Take the best of both worlds and start with imitation and then innovate! Great read.

Five Destructive Parenting Habits We Must Replace - Growing Leaders
I love Tim Elmore as he’s a great voice for the next generation. This was a great read reminding me that as we have 3 teenagers in the house (pray for me!), that wisdom-based parenting is what I desire as I parent with influence. We must make this shift in parenting, parents! Read it and continue reading his stuff.
