If you know me at all, you know I have a lot of interests (leadership, technology, travel, productivity, music, etc). This newsletter will be just some of my musings and curation of content from the week. It will be weekly, sometimes less, never more.

Day One | A simple and elegant journal for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
It’s true … we all have a bad memory when it comes to the events and thoughts of our lives. I’ve been using an beautiful app called Day One for many many years and now am reaping the benefits of reviewing what happened years ago on that same date today. Yes, I know it’s $4.99 for the iPhone app, and people who aren’t necessarily strapped for cash would think spending $5 bucks for an app is ridiculous. BUT think about this … would you spend $5 on a physical journal that you would use for years? Five bucks! If this tool would help you remember what you were going through at different seasons of your life, would it be worth $5??? At the end of the day, if the price point is the deterrent, then that’s just an excuse.  So, let me put it out there … for any of my friends (that’s you reading this newsletter!) can’t afford or is skeptical of spending $5 on this app, I’ll give you a $5 iTunes gift card to cover it. It has truly been so helpful for me over the years, that I’d love to do that as a gift. Download it now because yes, the shortest pencil (or app) is still the longest memory.

The Johari Window Model | Communication Theory
This simple concept called the Johari Window is so helpful. Even though this is a leadership principle that I’ve shared for many years, I JUST shared it with my 3 teenage kids and also with my community group. Four quadrants - 1) Things people know about you and you also know about it 2) Things people don’t know about you but you know about it 3) Things people know about you but you don’t know about it 4) Things people don’t know about you and you don’t know about it This is positive things (gifts, strengths, etc) or negative things (weaknesses, tendencies, idiosyncrasies, etc). Imagine how powerful it would be if you were able to grow the Quadrant #1 larger. There’s even an assessment tool that’ll help you see where you’re at.Â

Why the Problem with Learning Is Unlearning
This is not only true in leadership but even when it comes to spiritually and church. It’s more about unlearning what we’ve learned than it is learning a new way. Don’t get stuck in your current ways of thinking. Check out this great read from Harvard Business Review (one of my favorite sites).
