If you know me at all, you know I have a lot of interests (leadership, technology, travel, productivity, music, etc). This newsletter will be just some of my musings and curation of content from the week. It will be weekly, sometimes less, never more.

Ok, I’m sure I’m the only one that noticed, but I missed my first week last week with my “weekly” newsletter. I was out of the country (visited my sponsored child in Ecuador) and had very limited internet access. Even though I had extreme guilt in missing a week, I do have a disclaimer that my newsletter “will be weekly, sometimes less, never more.” But it was a good insight for me that I love streaks. (If you have teenage kids, you know how obsessed they can be with streaks in Snapchat.)
Streaks build habits. Habits create discipline. Discipline produces results (except Snapchat!). It’s pretty daunting to think that you can start something or make a dent/difference by doing something. But the cumulative effect of doing something every day/week is powerful. What would it look like if you did something that you wanted to grow in and did it everyday for the next 30 days, trying not to break the streak? It’s a powerful discipline. I think also the other thing to remember is when you do break the streak (cause you will - as I did last week), you have to start the streak again. Because the only way you get back to where you were or pass where you were is by beginning again. So, I start again this week and hope you enjoy this week’s newsletter.
Welcome to all the new subscribers … expect an email in your inbox every Friday (except the Fridays I break my streak). :)

STREAKS. The to-do list that helps you form good habits. For iPhone.
So, I guess after that intro, it’s only fitting for me to give you an app recommendation on how to keep track of Streaks. I’ve been using this app for a while. What I love about it is that it gamifies things I want to track. Things I currently have on mine are Sleep 7 Hours, Take My Medicine, Walk 10k Steps, Read Bible/Pray, Read for 30 Minutes. It tells you your longest streaks and even a calendar view of when you missed. You can customize it to whatever you want to track and for Health stuff (like steps, etc), it does it automatically since your phone knows how many steps you’ve taken. Love it! For less than a price of a cup of coffee, you can have an app that help build habits and routine. Check it out!

Thais - My sponsor child in Ecuador
|
Write My Child
I just got back from visiting Ecuador last week. I was able to visit our Stadia Compassion Church plant there and meet the pastor and volunteers. But I also had the incredible opportunity to visit my sponsor child, Thais. As you can see, she is beautiful. All I can say is, it was an emotional and life-changing experience where I feel like I now have a powerful connection with her and her family that will just grow. She lives with her grandmother, mother, sisters and her niece (read no male figure). It brought tears to my eyes when Thais’ grandmother said to me as I was leaving, “Gracias Padre” (Thank you, father). But as I was there, I was reminded of how important the letters are to them. Story after story about how God used letters from sponsors around the world to bring hope, healing and encouragement to these children. Please take a few minutes today and write to your sponsor child. It will change the trajectory of their life … and maybe even yours.

Want to Become the Best at What You Do? Read this.
I loved this article! Now, I know you might be a little skeptical about a 5 step list to become the best at what you do because it sounds too simplistic. But, I think these are actually helpful and I resonate with all of them. That’s probably because many people fall into similar traps. Read this and there may be one thing that you take from it that you can focus on that could result in you becoming the best at what you do!

To Be More Creative, Schedule Your Breaks
This sounds almost counterintuitive at first but it makes a lot of sense. We tend to feel like we need to work on something until we get stuck and then move on to something else. But we actually don’t realize that we’re stuck until we’ve been stuck for a while (especially when it comes to creativity). This approach sounds helpful. If you don’t do this intuitively, try it!
