Sunday Brief - Issue #15

Hello friends 👋
Welcome back to Sunday Brief, this is issue 15 of my weekly email newsletter for creative professionals where I share my thoughts, inspiration, life lessons and interesting finds from the week.
I’m back! After a one month stint in the U.K to see family and experimenting with remote work, I’m sitting back at my kitchen table in Cambodia this Sunday morning sipping on a delicious iced latte. In doing so, I got thinking about the importance of little pockets of contentment.
Without conforming to a looming sense of doom and gloom that has understandably hung over this week, I think that these days the “slow weekend” has become something of a novelty as the general pace of work, life and volume of inbound information we get each day has become exponentially higher and just down-right draining for a lot of people.
I’ve certainly found myself reaching for my phone and being glued to the news instead of reaching for a book more times than I would like to admit.

What I'm thinking about
So with this idea of slowing down and making the “slow weekend” more than just a novelty, I’ve gone out of my way this week to consciously operate at what Ray Dalio would define as “higher-level thinking” or “macro thinking”. It’s required me to delegate more than I would normally be comfortable with, but has really allowed me to not be attached to the outcome of individual outcomes and keep an eye on the macro perspective.
Ray Dalio
Higher-level thinking isn’t something that’s done by higher-level beings. It’s simply seeing things from the top down. Think of it as looking at a photo of yourself and the world around you from outer space. https://t.co/iaVb1oOaKn
