What I’m thinking about
This week I’ve started
Mastery by Robert Greene and it’s a fantastic read so far, the type that leaves a lasting impact on the way you think and operate. Greene uncovers practical methods and strategies on how to become a high achiever and attain mastery in your desired field, leveraging interesting examinations of historical figures.
So naturally, such books always leave me feeling reflective and in particular I’ve been caught up in thinking what is the ‘thing’ I want to master?
For me so far, there isn’t a hard and fast answer here - especially for those who do creative work. But, an essential take-away is that more often than not, mastery is earned through many years of focused training, dedication and strength and not something we are natural born with. And, to support the required dedication, we need to devise and arrange certain structures and protocols that increase the propensity of gaining knowledge and applying this knowledge to real projects.
In a nutshell (and I’m only a quarter of the way through the book 😅):
Start → Support Structures → Dedication = Deep Knowledge / Mastery?
If you’re interested in finding out more about some protocols I try to incorporate into my life, take a look at one of my most recent articles.
