The parent company of Chicago’s public radio station, WBEZ, is exploring a merger with one of the city’s beleaguered newspapers, the Sun-Times. One thing that is interesting in the Verge piece is the statement that ‘audio is a growth industry’ by Jim Friedlich, chief executive of The Lenfest Institute for Journalism. He has been an advisor for the merger. It’s a good look at the promise and some of the challenges for these public mergers.
We also have some good practical advice from marketing managers via the Press Gazette on how to improve open rates and a meta-analysis of A/B headline testing. Adam Tinworth, a friend who does training and teaching, also has some advice on SEO techniques.
PLUS IAB sees a rise in revenue from digital advertising but cautions that businesses must provide good user experience. A warning about Apple taking a bigger chunk of digital advertising.
