The Dream Pushers are Pushing Hard

Just Rolling with It

September 9 · Issue #63 · View online

Pursuing our dreams, not theirs.

Ideas on balancing entrepreneurial drive with wellness, bringing to life new ideas while living well ourselves and making space for what matters in a well-balanced life.

I wrote a couple weeks ago that the dream pushers push The Dream. I didn’t get into who the dream pushers are.
So who are they?
I’ve been thinking about this quite a bit over the past few months. The dream pushers I’m thinking about fall into a couple categories -
1 - Those who profit from pushing The Dream
These people make money by pushing the dream.
They are the -
  • Industrialists who profit from the work you do pursuing the dream (Read this post from Seth Godin for more on industrialists vs. the rest of us.)
  • People who sell the products the dream tells you to buy
  • Marketers who work to convince you to buy the products The Dream tells you to buy
2 - Those pursuing The Dream
Some people are pursuing it consciously, others unconsciously. They’re convinced The Dream is their dream. They can’t imagine a dream different from The Dream. As a result, they want to surround themselves with others chasing The Dream.
People that don’t chase The Dream are lazy, losers, weak or just plain WEIRD :)
Most of my life’s been spent surrounded by both categories of people. The voices of self-doubt in my mind are these people’s voices. Our existence is bombarded by these voices daily.
Just Rolling with It’s helped me understand not everyone falls into these categories. A recent therapy session reminded me how important it is for me to spend time with people chasing their dreams, rather than The Dream.
This reminder feels hopeful and liberating. I’m learning it’s OK to chase my dream, even if it’s not The Dream.I’m experiencing how important it is to be surrounded by others who are too.
How about you? Are you surrounded by people who chase The Dream or theirs? Let me know by replying directly to this email.
Catch you next week, with my gratitude,
