Welcome back {{first_name}} … Happy Memorial Day and official start of summer. Short but productive trip to the Startup Nation. Back in the States tomorrow…
If you’re in the Tel Aviv area I’d love to see you; I’m planning on hosting a get-together this evening. If you’re in town just respond to this email and I’ll let you know the details.
Some inspiration

-Shimon Peres
What I'm reading
McDonald’s, Nvidia and Salesforce all want a bite of the Tel Aviv tech crop. Here’s what you need to know about Israel’s bustling M&A scene: Good overview by Business Insider on the tech scene here in Tel Aviv, but honestly, I could have replaced this article with one of many of the articles extorting the virtues of the Startup Nation (which I’ve written my fair share).
Israel, and Tel Aviv in particular are very complex places which always leave me a bit torn every time I visit and ultimately head back to the States. On the one hand you see the amount of foreign capital being poured into the country, as well as the many newly minted millionaires thanks to the tech scene. On the other hand your average Israeli is just trying to keep their head above water. While economic growth is a net positive, you get the feeling that Tel Aviv is starting to resemble the pay-to-play culture of Manhattan.
With the two tech juggernauts the US and China coming out as the clear winners in tech winner-take-all the world is going to continue to seek the Startup Nation’s expertise. Skyline, energy, and the amount of foreigners you see here indicate how fast things are changing. Regarding the skyline, it’s starting to look like Hudson Yards and the biggest projects aren’t even completed yet. I’m bullish on Tel Aviv now more then ever.
Key Takeaways:
⚪️ Campus TLV: Tel Aviv still has that small town (or college campus) feel, but instead of just running into Israelis I knew I ran into more and more Americans visiting or who now call Tel Aviv home.
⚪️ Scooters takin’ over: After I wiped out on one of those Bird scooters in Austin I learned my lesson. The locals riding wild on the streets, sidewalks, and bike lanes. The fine for not wearing a helmet? 1,000 NIS.
⚪️ Energy 10X: Something that always strikes me is the energy in Tel Aviv. You feel it walking down the street, at the working spaces, and when you meet new people. I didn’t know it was possible but I felt that the energy level was turned up even higher during my time here.

Solving real problems
Israeli Esports Association: The Israel Esports Association (R.A.) is an Israeli nonprofit established in 2010 which serves to educate and raise awareness around the importance esports is playing locally and globally and promote and manage competitions between professional and amateur Israeli esports players. They currently have more than 150 active players registered with the association, including Maccabi Tel Aviv F.C. a professional FIFA team. Their association is an official Israeli member of the International Esports Federation.
Following up on the article I wrote about the esports scene in Israel, this organization recently held a successful global conference hosting the International Esports Federation. We’re at the nascent stages of what I predict will be a playing field Israel will dominate, especially when it comes to future Olympic Games. If you care about Israel, engaging Gen Z, and tech this is an organization you need to check out.
