Welcome back YKC community … and the beginning of spring.
Many of you reached out to me about the upcoming happy hour I was planning on hosting this week. Unfortunately, earlier this month I got COVID the week I wanted to start planning it so I postponed the event… but most likely I will host something during the summer. Stay tuned.

What I'm reading
Personality Isn’t Permanent: Break Free from Self-Limiting Beliefs and Rewrite Your Story by Benjamin P. Hardy: This is probably one of my favorite new self-development “gurus”… I have enjoyed reading his work much more than I initially would have believed. The book’s premise is that personality tests are BS, on which I didn’t have much of an opinion either way, but I know some people take them very seriously. According to the author, not only are they not based on real data, but your personality is something which can change and adapt.
What I got from this shorter book is not that personality tests are outdated (you’d think the way they are presented on dating app profiles they are dealbreakers) but that if something like personality tests are not accurate predictors of personality… what is? Personally, I’ve been learning more about archetypes, and how they interact with each other; reading this book has caused me to question if they are not permanent as well? We have all felt that we act differently around different people in a variety of situations, so this idea that our personalities are malleable based on context is not necessarily a new idea.
The good news is that no matter the stories we tell ourselves, we can take active steps to change who are future selves will be. If there is one underlying theme in all these self-development books, it is that action cures all. That includes taking action against internal constraints which we were made to believe were permanent such as personality.
Key Takeaways:
⚪️ Let your goals dictate your personality: We can change and adapt based on what we want to get out of life.
⚪️ You can change: There is a lot of fixed mindset thinking about this fact, but personalities are malleable.
⚪️ More data emerges: Our understanding of our inner worlds and how we interpret reality are constantly being updated with new research.
