Sharing meaningful experiences, impactful ideas and career + event opportunities in the NY/TLV tech ecosystems

Welcome to YKC. Our hearts are with those whose lives have been impacted by the devasting damage Hurricane Irma has created; to make a donation to the Hurricane Irma Relief Fund click here.
With the recent 16th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, time does not always heal the scars that many New Yorker affected by the terrible terrorist attacks of that day still feel. I know I will never forget where I was and how I felt when the Towers were hit; disbelief which quickly turned to pain and fear. But every day we continue on with our lives and thrive is a testimony to overcoming our adversaries’ wish to destroy our way of life.
Experimenting with a chatbot which delivers this newsletter right to your Facebook Messenger inbox. Given the rise of bots, YKC Botletter could be the next iteration in the progression of a newsletter delivered to your inbox; an AI NL (newsletter). Maybe one day very soon I’ll be using an artificial intelligence program to create content for this newsletter…

Perennial Seller: The Art of Making and Marketing Work that Lasts by Ryan Holiday: This is probably one of the best marketing (and making) book I’ve read; just the chapter Platform far exceeds a 10X return on purchasing this book. The author goes thru the process (and mindset) of putting great work into the world (whether you’re an artist or entrepreneur) as well as the vital task of marketing that work and nurturing authentic connections with a fan base. Some of the concepts on work and the creative process mirror Cal Newport’s excellent Deep Work but overall the tone of the book reminds me of Robert Greene’s Mastery

The reader can definitely feel Greene’s influence on this book; everything from the title, the thorough research, to the medieval looking cover design of the book. Greene’s genre-creating 48 Rules of Power is even more relevant these days than when it was first published, a real Perennial Seller. If you are a well-adjusted, empathetic person I would not recommend utilizing the lessons in this book, but use it as a tool in understanding people who display the psychological traits of the applied psychology concept the Dark Triad (narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy) who are out in the open, organized, and on the ascent these days: Psychologists surveyed hundreds of alt-right supporters. The results are unsettling. And to tie it back to how little we have progressed since 9/11: Charlottesville Could Make Silicon Valley Treat White Supremacists Like ISIS.
