“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong”

Welcome back YKC community … wishing those who are fasting an easy fast and a meaningful time of reflection.
This being a time of reflection I can admittedly state that I am at an inflection point regarding content creation. I’m noodling on doing a deeper dive on topics I believe provide a lot of value to this young professional community such as productivity hacks and how to empower others to create impactful content (and may be even taking a bit of a step back from Israeli tech as I find there is no lack of good content in the space).
TBD, and I will be sending/posting surveys (on LinkedIn) soon to get a gauge of which direction the (digital) winds are blowing.

“Every Yom Kippur, Jewish tradition requires a strict spiritual inventory. You aren’t supposed to just sit around feeling guilty, but to take action in the real world to set things right”
-Naomi Wolf
What I'm reading
What I'm reading
The Tel Aviv plot by Bruce Riedel: This is an introspective time with the 20th remembrance of 9/11 being close to Yom Kippur. With the recently declassified information around the terrorist attack nothing is particularly surprising in this Brookings piece, but it is jarring. Those were awful days, not just the day the towers felt, but thinking back to the early 00s in Israel during the Second Intifada and the waves of suicide bombers. Being in Israel in May during the last round of fighting with the Hamas I was reminded of that feeling of dread when sectarian violence broke out in the streets.
It feels like yesterday, not just the day 9/11 happened but those following years when it seemed as if the terrorists had the upper hand, and things were spiraling out of control. It’s not a war we can ultimately win, as it’s been noted so often when you’re fighting an ideology. As a society we have progressed, learned resilience (though I worry about future generations), and threats exist, but in different forms such as cyber and from different enemies. I’m inherently an optimist, and I believe where it comes to security, we’re in a better place.
Today however, the idea of some kind of national unity seems ridiculous. Through the lens of there being no source of truth (everyone cherry picks what they want to believe), we see how catastrophic events like a global pandemic have only accelerated our divided society. I shudder to think how we would react today as a society. Maybe Yom Kippur is a moment not just as a Jewish holiday, but a global one where everyone takes one step back and reflects.
Key Takeaways:
⚪️ Sometimes we can’t forgive: We forgive to free ourselves, but some things just can’t be forgiven.
⚪️ Threats don’t always unify: I was wrong in the idea that COVID would unify us, it’s only made our divisions much worse.
⚪️ Our enemies are playing the long game: Afghanistan is a reminder of how other people look at the arc of history and how time passes.
