7 Signs You Need a Copywriter!: This is something I’ve been thinking about lately, with no lack of push back from people here in the Israeli ecosystem, and is a topic I will publish a piece on in the near future. Am I the only one who reads copy (the content writing is a bit better) on many Israeli companies’ websites and feel it’s lacking something authentic?
To be clear; “copywriting is written content conveyed through online media and print materials. Copy content is primarily used for the purpose of advertising or marketing.” Yes, companies like and Lemonade sound as if they were built in northern California and have been wildly successful. But for every unicorn there is a graveyard of massive failures who never made it. I don’t believe in this argument that copy for B2B is vastly different then B2C, in the end there is a person on the other side reading what you’re offering. As words carry weight, this should start with the copy.
Maybe it’s what you hear in Tel Aviv about building a ‘global’ company (as opposed to an Israeli one). Really, why? Take a look at the world around you today, who won’t buy from you now? When you meet a company from a place like NY or Texas you know they’re from that location; everything about them exudes this fact. They lean into their identity on the global scale, we should start to do that as well. The most immediate way to do so is with a potential customer’s first digital experience with your brand.
Key Takeaways:
⚪️ Empathy first: Your audience wants to engage with the real you, not what you think they want to hear
⚪️ Copy is not content: Good storytelling is in the DNA of both, but think of copy as ‘sales’ and content as ‘marketing’ (I’ll get hell for this definition)
⚪️ A legacy of storytelling: I’m always surprised to hear that founders struggle with this, don’t let any consultant tell you otherwise, you got this
