What I'm reading
What I'm reading
Post Corona: From Crisis to Opportunity by Scott Galloway: One of the sharpest and brutally honest minds in business today, hands down. This short book was a lot more optimistic about the future then I expected… compared to his usual analysis. Professor Galloway, a professor of marketing at NYU has taken the throne as the marketing guru from Seth Godin, another writer aspiring tech-bros such as myself love to read.
When the pandemic began, some saw the opportunities that arise during a time of struggle. This book is particularly relevant for those in higher education as well as government, and whether or not you agree with the analysis, it is worth reading. He presents some interesting ideas on Zoom and Peloton, and how other companies can create a flywheel like Apple or Amazon. What I took away and believe is important is that we continue to look for the opportunities in the struggle, as difficult as it is during these times. I certainly know people who are in better positions then before the pandemic started, and yes, there are factors out of our control. But agency and taking action plays a part as well, it’s been hard for everyone.
Professor Galloway is prolific, and this book was written with observations while we were still in the middle of the pandemic (as if you assume, we’re close to getting it under control in the coming months). Whether or not you agree with him, hearing him out has merit. He makes a lot of bold statements, one or two of them are going to pan out.
Key Takeaways:
⚪️ The stronger get stronger: Yes, Big Tech did get stronger, but it also enabled our lives during the pandemic.
⚪️There are opportunities: It’s a truism for a reason, that many successful companies were built during economic downturns.
⚪️The future is now: The future of work is now, so stop looking towards the future, understand the now.
