Shalom from the White City YKC community … It’s a bit of strange situation with COVID here. It’s not entirely clear (judging from what I read in the media) how serious the reactions the Delta variant is causing. And more importantly, how many of those infected (that number is rising) were vaccinated… ultimately the number of hospitalizations is what will dictate policy.
Despite the intense heat on the streets here in Tel Aviv you see more people wearing masks. We’re already being threatened with another lockdown if the numbers increase. Usually when a Prime Minister states that, it means there is a good chance it’s going to happen.
If you’re attending Cyber Week this week at Tel Aviv University let me know, I’ll be attending as well as writing an article on the experience.
Upstream IRL Tel Aviv Mixer: I’ll be hosting my first “post-COVID” in-person event next week with Upstream, powered by inTulsa with Samsung NEXT and Ibex Investors on: Wed July 28th, 8pm (20:00), at Samsung NEXT, Arania Osvaldo St 17, Tel Aviv-Yafo. Click to below to join the Upstream Made in Israel community and RSVP for the event FREE OF CHARGE here.

“The real test is not whether you avoid this failure, because you won’t. It’s whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere.”

What I'm reading
What I'm reading
Running a country like a startup by Eran Shir: It’s only fitting and a sign of the times that the popular Israeli tech publication Calcalist has a section dubbed “The New Tech Millionaires”. I know we love to pat ourselves on the back when it comes to success and outsized returns, as well as this obsession with money raised but there are challenges ahead.
I’m going to address this in a number of future articles, but there is a feeling that Israel is really taking off now (as we learn to live with COVID). It’s not a post-Bibi era yet, but there are fresh faces and new approaches, and we probably won’t go back to what was. In working with both the US and Israel I see some of the business culture gap closing, but there is still a wide gap in how both places interact. While there is a benefit to being scrappy and resourceful, it’s almost as if we haven’t really internalized how powerful we truly are (and not letting arrogance dictate bad decisions). But with COVID it does feel sometimes like it’s one two steps ahead, one step back.
There needs to be a sea change in Israeli business culture, but I see hope as Israel further integrates into the global community, but maybe not fast enough. But there are challenges in mindset and policies we’re going to have to change to reach that next level.
