Welcome back YKC community … to YKC and the end of the summer…
Thank you for all the kind notes, messages, and calls during this difficult time for my family. In bitterness we can often see people’s true empathic nature, and these are gestures which stay with you for your whole life.

What I'm reading
What I'm reading
Unlimited Power: The New Science of Personal Achievement by Anthony Robbins: Tony Robbin’s books, which are often longer reads, hold up well and still offer a lot of value years later. Granted, this was his first book, and written in the mid-80’s, but many of the concepts are still solid. While “technology” such as NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) may not have had the scope of impact on people’s mindsets as he predicted, other mental tools in the book are useful today.
I think Awaken the Giant Within (released after Unlimited Power), is the best book out there for self-development, but you can still get nuggets of wisdom from this book. I believe Robbins is spot on regarding the connection between our physical world and mental world. As an example, intense workouts have always help me press the mental reset button, and manage my inner world better. He stresses this mind-body connection, and I wish more people would understand that you don’t work out for just your physical health, but for your mental health. The same goes with changing your mental state, often times mental states such as depression (let’s put aside factors such as chemical imbalances) are a choice. It’s your choice how you choose to interpret the world, and granted, this is easier said than done when you’re flooded with intense emotions. But it’s within you how you choose to interpret what the world throws at you, your inner locus of control is a super power… and I can state from personal experience over an emotional intense and draining two years, that choices I made in how I chose to interpret situations helped me maintain a strong sense of inner balance.
All of us could improve, and are works in progress. I decided personally I needed a reset, and don’t feel I am reaching my full potential, so I’m going to attend one of Tony Robbin’s seminars later this year. I’m sure I’ll have plenty to write about the experience. Do I think it will be life changing… maybe, but I believe I will learn a lot, and there are benefits to in-person events (it’s been too long). Wherever you are on your journey, reading books like this are a net positive, even if you learn just one insight about yourself.
