Sharing meaningful experiences, impactful ideas and career + event opportunities in the NY/TLV tech ecosystems

Welcome to YKC. Happy Labor Day… summer is sadly coming to an end, but that also means NYFW is just around the corner. Lots of fashion-tech content below. 👠🕺👧
A big thank you to the Revue team for featuring YKC in their Gallery section; click here and scroll down to the Tech section.
Experimenting with a new section, Opportunity, focused on high-caliber applicants, internships, and employment opportunities. Feedback welcome.

Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation?: Take a deep breath. Technology has overall created a net positive on society (and I’m the furthest thing from a Luddite), but this article highlights some significant concerns. I’ve been saying for some time that:
1.) There are a plethora of mental health and emotions issues not being addressed by people working in the tech space (or worse, justified, and encouraged, i.e. Steve Jobs). Medium post on this in the works.
2.) It seems like a generation (Centennials/iGeneration/Gen Z) are growing up with less empathy, social skills, and general EQ (in part because of smartphones and how we communicate these days). With increasing automation and AI taking jobs, EQ and other soft skills are going to be valued even more, so that is a major concern for the future. Data on this trend will be available soon.
Not a turn-key solution (I’ve found personally that daily meditation can help increase empathy, however); but this is a good article for those interested: What Meditation Can Do for Us, and What It Can’t. Tying it all together, this article describes how meditation (focused simplicity and empathy for the consumer’s experience) influenced Steve Job’s design of Apple products, and changed the world.
⚪️The YKC Featured Candidate has a background in project management and sales; he is looking for an opportunity in tech (vertical agnostic) sales, as well as representative, (property) management, real estate (ex., being a right-hand man). He is able to travel (though he is based in New York). (To inject my personal opinion, a BD role at a growth stage real estate-tech startup could possibly be a good fit.)
To be introduced to him just respond to me directly.
⚪️Zimplified is looking for an enthusiastic intern (remote position) to help with blogging/content development and social media activities.
The intern will have the opportunity to work on projects that directly contribute to the company’s launch and growth. They’re looking for an intern who can commit to 8-10 hours per week for at least 4 months, starting September 2017. Excellent writing and editing skills are required. Sound interesting? Awesome! Check out the attached position description. Please send your resume and a writing sample to jacob@ZimplifiedLife.com
⚪️I’ve written in the past about the benefits of immersive experiences in nature on developing deep and authentic relationships; some of the closest in the Northeast (and the most popular) are summer camps. I’m planning on attending Camp Lindenmere this Labor Day weekend in what looks to be an amazing experience. If you’d like to join me you can use the YKC discount SOCIAL which will give you 10% off here
⚪️Matan Shaked NYFW event September 6, 7PM at 666 Madison Ave. This charity event supports designers from the Negev and is organized by the Tahor Group and the Or Movement. 10% off with code: ShopDrop. To purchase tickets click here.
⚪️FUTURE OF FASHION NYFW Event Tuesday, September 12th, 5PM-7PM at The Attic Rooftop ( 251 W 48th St.) featuring 5 emerging designer brands, 5 fashion-tech startups, a runway show, sample sale, swag bag & a free drink! In my previous life, I produced an Israeli fashion show (I highly recommend you not attempt this feat unless you like losing sleep over losing a pair of $1,000 women’s shoes over the Atlantic) so I will definitely be attending what looks to be an impressive event.
Join ShopDrop and TABu for an unforgettable evening of style and tech. Use the code YKC code: YONI and purchase tickets here.
⚪️Bloomberg, Cornell Tech, and Tech:NYC invite you to join them for the latest installment of the CornellTech@Bloomberg series, featuring Gary Vaynerchuk, CEO and co-founder of VaynerMedia, and four-time New York Times best-selling author. Personally, I don’t love Gary V’s style, but I know many entrepreneurs who LOVE and derive much value from his work so I wanted to share this opportunity. I’ve heard he is an excellent speaker though and plan on attending; the event is free of charge, to register for a ticket click here.
⚪️ShopDrop helps urban fashion lovers discover sample sales so they can wear brands they love for prices they can afford. I was recently scolded by the CEO of this rapidly growing startup for not downloading her app. Because of my ignorance, I missed no less than 3 Theory sample sales! Gents, can you use this app as well, so don’t repeat my bonehead mistake and download it today!
Happy Labor Day!!! 🍔
