Welcome back YKC community … Thank you all for the birthday wishes!
Sadly, another mass shooting took place on the 4th of July… our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims.
My latest article in Medium on what I learned since my last birthday: 5 Lessons I Learned Since My Last Birthday

“When we least expect it, life sets up a challenge to test our courage and willingness to change; at such a moment, there is no point in pretending that nothing has happened or in saying that we are not yet ready. The challenge will not wait. Life does not look back.”
-Paulo Coelho
What I'm reading
What I'm reading
Tiny Business, Big Money: Strategies for Creating a High-Revenue Microbusiness by Elaine Pofeldt: Being in the tech space, there is this given that when you launch a company, you’re going to give over a lion share to outside investors. Despite what is all over the tech and business press, there are different successful models in building a business, in which you retain equity in a slower growing cash flow business.
It’s not just about equity, but some people do much better with managing small teams, and having more control of the growth of their business. If the pandemic has done anything it’s moved the needle on making side hustles into full-fledged businesses. Granted this book is geared, or optimized for digital first entrepreneurs, it’s mostly impossible to run anything without a strong digital presence. In her earlier book, The Million Dollar One Person Business, the author wrote about the idea of a billion dollar a year solo entrepreneur… will technology enable such scale for one person in the coming years? I don’t know, but it’s something to aspire to when looking at starting a business.
Today when launching a business people feel empowered to make an impact. You just need to have an Internet connection to find a way to start solving peoples’ problems , thus making money. Overall, if you’re thinking about launching a business this coming year (or starting another revenue stream) to off-set the potential economic downturn, check this book out.
Key Takeaways:
⚪️ Certain businesses can succeed: Many Americans start SMBs, but this model is focused on digital first businesses.
⚪️ This is the new normal: Everyone has it in them to at least start a side hustle.
⚪️ Another way to empower people: It’s an empowering feeling to know you can build something on your own.
