“You will never do anything in this world without courage”

Curated by YKC

Welcome back YKC community … am I the only person who wishes we could just press the ‘reset’ button on this decade? We’ve never hurt so much as a nation, and while I know the power of written words, that words carry weight, I don’t believe I can seriously add anything meaningful to this conversation which hasn’t been stated already.
If the stars align, I plan on being in Israel sometime during the summer and am looking for volunteer opportunities. Ideally something related to the tech community in which I could parlay my professional skills (writing, content creation, etc.) to benefit others but am open to suggestions.
My latest piece in ISRAEL21c: What Israel can teach the world about beating a pandemic (the first wave of infections at least).
I decided to enroll in the ThePowerMBA, you can read my thoughts in Medium on why despite the daily grind of building an agency I made this decision now: Why I chose to take ThePowerMBA. More coming soon…
If you like this newsletter, make sure to check out The Startup Nation Review. It’s the latest iteration and extension of these ideas focused on global Israeli tech community; subscribe to The Startup Nation Review by clicking here.

Yes to Life: In Spite of Everything by Viktor E. Frankl, Daniel Goleman: If there was a time to take a serious look at our lives, what we’re doing, and where we are headed, it’s now. This book consist of a short series of classroom lectures the author gave in Vienna only months after he was freed from the death camps. Though many survivors chose to migrate from Europe after the war (due to many local populations’ betrayal), Frankl chose to go back to his home in Austria and begin the healing process there.
Life is suffering. Who hasn’t stated that whole religions have been built around the idea that suffering needs to have meaning? Whether it’s the monotheistic concept of Heaven or Eastern philosophies radical acceptance of pain, us humans need a reason for all of this to make sense. Understanding that can help us get through this difficult period in modern history by giving meaning to our current role in history. Yes, our forefathers may have had it worse (ex., Frankl’s defining experience in the death camps during the Shoah) but it’s hard to reflect on that in the right now when you’re going through it.
But maybe it should. As a generation I believe what we miss is historical context. Not that injustices don’t need to be fought; they do. Following this trifecta of bad news; a global pandemic, racial injustice, and a bad economy, it feels like it’s the first time it’s happening to us. It’s not. We will find new meaning in this struggle, which will ultimately help us overcome.
Key Takeaways:
⚪️ You’re being tested: When life throws it’s usual BS at me, I remind myself that I’m being tested… it’s my go-to concept for finding meaning during difficult times.
⚪️ Go on a news diet: If you want context don’t watch the news, or go on Twitter, seriously, delete all social and news apps from your phone.
⚪️ Struggle well: You’re going to struggle, and the time will pass either way, you may as well look to create meaning around the limited time we truly have during our lifetime.
