Shalom YKC community … A big thank you for all the birthday wishes last week. Additionally, if you’re a growing Israeli startup and looking to hire high-skilled workers in the US let’s chat about how I can help you find that talent in Tulsa. To schedule a time to meet please respond directly to this email.

“I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

What I'm reading
|
So many of today’s self-development ideas are rooted in Stoic philosophy, Eastern thought (understanding how thoughts shape our reality), and psychiatrist/philosopher Viktor Frankl’s experience during the Holocaust. That we can control our inner world despite what happens outside ourselves. Though this book was written over 30 years ago, it still feels fresh, and while it is fun to step back to the late 1980’s many of the concepts in this book (not the health ones) are pretty relevant today. As someone who is always looking to eke out that one idea or improve on the edges, this book offered a number of actionable takeaways, and if anything, a refresher to focus on what is important as we climb out of COVID. If you’re an avid reader of self-development books, you can just throw most of them away, all these ‘gurus’ all say the same thing. It’s all in the marketing and how they package themselves, so I’d recommend finding that one author you resonate with and sticking with them. Key Takeaways:
⚪️ It’s really within us: Everyone has their own personal challenges, and they can be overcome.
⚪️If it’s embarrassing you need to do it: Like sharing that I read this book, but if it benefits people, then it’s a net positive.
⚪️ Most people still let their minds control them: As the saying goes… “the mind is a wonderful servant but a terrible master.”
