Shalom from the White City YKC community … It’s the end of August so the content will be light this month as many people are traveling.
If you’re a growing Israeli startup and looking to hire high-skilled workers in the US let’s chat about how I can help you find that talent (ex., SDRs and customer success) in Tulsa. To schedule a time to meet please respond directly to this email. Also, for companies seriously considering hiring in Tulsa I’m hosting a private reception later this month so reach out directly to me about that as well.

TikTok intifada is ‘just the tip of the iceberg’ - analysis: I covered this in a Forbes piece I wrote following the Israel-Hamas conflict at the beginning of the summer, but it bears repeating. The rocket fire from Gaza yesterday was a reminder of how quickly things could spiral out of control again. During the last round of fighting, it was as if the whole might of the IDF was challenged and defeated in that round by the Hadid sisters and fake news infographics spread on Instagram.
Many Jewish organizations give lip service to engaging Gen Z, but the reality is that sometimes I feel it is too late. Israel’s lack of progress on the Palestinian front for the past ten years has cemented their underdog status in the minds of many millennials and Gen Z. The TikTok Intifada and the controversy around Ben and Jerrys should be a wakeup call, but sadly many of the organizations promoting “advocacy” just aren’t built to handle these new challenges. The messages are still the same, what’s changed is the audience (young woke people) and the platforms (social media).
If I was going to start an organization today to combat anti-Semitism and anti-Israel bias it would be an organization-built platform/content first. Meaning an organization built digitally from the ground up on TikTok, Twitch, YouTube, etc. which understands those platforms, ways to optimize, and make the message stick. It’s never too late, and just how TikTok became a mainstream communication and advocacy tool during last summer’s Black Lives Matter protests, new platforms will arise.
Key Takeaways:
⚪️ The Startup Nation narrative: The narrative I believe in, but I wonder if sharing Israel’s startup miracle is enough.
⚪️ Meeting Gen Z where they are: If anything, understand the limited attention span today, and work to grab their attention.
⚪️Things are only going to get worse: We can’t wait any longer, with political changes, now is the time to act.
