Shalom from the Vaccination Nation YKC community … while the security situation is raging in other parts of the country life continues on in the “Tel Aviv Bubble”.
Let’s hope things calm down after this period of violence and blood-letting, but as is prone to happen in this part of the world the situation could continue to deteriorate. It sounds sad, but you know we’re moving past corona when there is an uptick of violence here.
It’s been 5 years since May 16th when I sent the first edition of this newsletter via my Gmail. What started as a way to communicate with my friends and professional acquittances developed into content across many mediums, a business, and hopefully a valuable experience for you readers. I thank you all for joining and supporting me on this journey which has been a tremendous period of growth.
I would love to meet in person and catch-up in the Tel Aviv area. Additionally, if you’re a growing Israeli startup and looking to hire high-skilled workers in the US let’s chat about how I can help you find that talent in Tulsa. To schedule a time to meet please respond directly to this email.

What I'm reading
What I'm reading
The Fish That Ate the Whale: The Life and Times of America’s Banana King by Rich Cohen: Probably one of my favorite new/old authors, this book is topical as the US and world are currently going through so many changes. This is not just a book about an immigrant that had the chutzpah (and luck) to make something of themselves out of nothing, but it’s a tale of how American power developed over the course of the beginning of the last century.
The story is of “Sam the Banana Man” Zemurray, a Jewish Russian-born immigrant who came to America with only his wits. He went on to build a banana empire, became the president of the United Fruit Company, and at his passing was one of the wealthiest and most powerful people in the US. He personally had an impact (and directed) coups in a number of Latin America countries as an extension of US political and business interests. After his son’s death as a fighter pilot in WWII, Zemurray plunged himself into helping the newborn state of Israel. It’s claimed he lobbied the heads of Latin American countries when the vote came for the establishment of the Jewish state in the UN.
Rags to riches stories don’t happen these days the way they used to, where it’s like post first on IG how “successful” you are, and then figure it out (or usually not), so there are always valuable lessons to learn from those who built enterprises with their own two hands which impacted millions.
Key Takeaways:
⚪️ It’s always tough to be an entrepreneur: Despite what the gurus tell you, it’s one of the hardest ways to make a living.
⚪️ Americans love an underdog: This is part of America’s DNA, never bet against the underdog.
⚪️ Forget business books, read history books: Learn from other people’s mistakes so you make less of your own.
